Leonardo De Gregorio, G. Persichetti’s pupil, graduated with honors in classical guitar programs at the Conservatory “A. Casella” (L’Aquila). He attended advanced courses with B. Battisti D’Amario, M. Delle Cese and A. Tallini at “Art’s Academy” (Rome), as well as numerous masterclasses held by internationally renowned guitarists, such as R. Dyens, D. Russel and Assad.
In 2000 he approached to the art of guitar making: his experience as a guitarist led him to seek in his guitars readiness, volume, and ease of execution.
He builds guitars in Canadian cedar or German spruce for the top, with back and sides in Indian rosewood, Madagascar rosewood, ebony and maple. In 2005 he began building “double top” guitars. This tecnique ensures that the guitar’s top is about 25% lighter in weight, allowing a quicker response and a better dynamic control; extreme clarity of each note and an excellent balance throughout the guitar’s register; great sound volume with a good projection. The fingerboard, slightly raised above the soundboard, facilitates the movement of the left hand in the execution of higher notes. Another useful innovation for the performer is the hole on the side. For rosettes, Leonardo uses the technique of the inlay of various precious woods to create rosettes that are always different and attractive.
A subtle and insatiable taste for the sound and a visceral love for wood and its processing, combined with his knowledge and experience, are the secrets of the excellent quality of De Gregorio guitars, that receive praise from experts and guitar lovers.
